2-Hours of Canadian Celtic Music

254-2-Hours-of-Celtic-Canadian-Music

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers!

It's here at last! Two-hours of awesome Celtic Canadian music that will get your toe tapping and her head bobbing. Go to your podcast feed and download it now. Or listen on the website.

It's interesting listening to this random selection of Celtic music from Canada. While we all play Celtic music, there seems to me a very subtle difference between Canadian Celtic vs American Celtic vs Irish Celtic vs Scottish Celtic. It's fascinating. This, of course, is a small sampling, but I think it's a good one. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the topic.

You may notice that many of the bands you requested were not on the show. My apologies. It's not for trying. In fact, I feel quite proud that I attempted to contact each and every band that you suggested. Most did not respond. Some said they would submit but didn't or didn't in time or forgot to send music. That's okay. We will try again next time. Hopefully, we can get more of these awesome bands on the show.

If you want to help, email a band. Tell them about the podcast and that you'd love to hear their music on our show. Then send them this short url where they can submit their music: 4celts.com.

Thanks to everyone who posted a short review of Best of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast on Amazon. I really appreciate it. We are still 23 reviews away from my goal of 50. Keep those reviews coming.

I saw one reviewer posted a 5 star review and said the album was really a 3 star album. Let me be clear. I want you to be 100% honest. If the album is a 2 star or 5 star, post it. This isn't a case of "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say it." No, I want you to just post a review so we hit 50, even if it's not a great one. I want potential listeners to know that you are offering your honest opinion of the album.

Again, if you don't have it, download it now. Listen to it. Find the songs you love, or don't. And then post a review.

Thank you for your support!

Celtic Music for a Cloudy Day

255-Celtic-Music-for-a-Cloudy-Day

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers!

April showers, bring May flowers. Right now, it's raining in Birmingham, Alabama. So I guess we can expect a lot of flowers next month. It's kinda sleepy weather. I thought an episode of the podcast that captured that cloudy weather feel might be kinda nice. But don't expect that there won't be some toe tapping involved. I think I captured the Celtic Music for a Cloudy Day.

What bands/musicians would you like to hear on the podcast in the future?

What bands do you follow who have new CDs?

I'd love to know! Email me.

Oh! And we are just 20 reviews shy of 50 for the Best of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast on Amazon. Got a moment? Please go post a review now.

Thank you for your support!

Commitment to Celtic Music

256-Commitment-to-Celtic-Music

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers!

My daughter Inara is getting older. She's starting to take up a lot more time on those days that she's at home. I love that she can walk. However, it's definitely a bigger challenge to keep up with her.

Nevertheless, I am keeping up with her Celtic music education. We listen to the latest podcast each week when it comes out, and while I'm recording it too of course.

A couple days ago, I sent out an email about the Podcast Awards. I want to thank everyone who responded by nominating the podcast. I made one error in that email. This is the preliminary round. Before we can win an award, we have to be nominated first. This round is important to get on the ballot. However, when the next round of voting comes up, that'll be the make or break moment. So thank you for helping us win our third Podcast Award. If you haven't done so yet, nominate the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast for Best Music at www.podcastawards.com.

The Best of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast compilation is just 15 reviews away from our 50+ goal. The reason I am asking for these reviews is because I recently learned that if a book gets over fifty reviews, then Amazon will more likely feature the book. It will rank better in the search results. I'm running an experiment to see if this is the same with music.

If it IS, then this presents a great opportunity for us to help indie Celtic bands. We will review their music, which would mean higher charting, increased sales and possibly a feature by Amazon. That's an incredible opportunity for indie Celtic bands. So if you have a moment, please review the album so I can see the results. It'll take a couple months before we see those. But I will keep you informed.

Oh! And you don't have to give the album 5 stars if you don't think it deserves it. Rate it how you like. You also don't need to write a long review. You can just say, "It's a great album!" or whatever you like. The number of ratings are what matters.

Thank you as always for your generous support.

* HELP WANTED. Wouldn't it be awesome if there was an easy link to the CDs of bands in the latest podcast? It wouldn't take a whole lot of time to compile. I'm guessing 30-45 minutes. I need someone's help to make this happen. All you will need to do is download album covers and send a link to band web stores. Then share those links. I'll help you make it happen. If you are willing to spend a little time on this for me, reply to this email now!

The Hero’s Return

257-Celtic-Music-Hero's-Return

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers!

I finished another fun episode of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. I already heard back from a 2 patrons saying they loved the show. Thanks. I am excited to share all of this fantastic indie Celtic music with you. I hope you love listening and sharing it with your friends too.

The Podcast Awards nominations close tomorrow on Saturday. If you haven't nominated the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast for Best Music Podcast, go do that right now at www.podcastawards.com.

The Best of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast compilation is just 9 reviews away from our 50+ goal. We are SO close. I can smell it! If we hit that goal, then this experiment might mean better sales for indie Celtic musicians when I start leading a campaign to promote Celtic bands. Please review the album. I will let you know the final results in a couple months.

Oh! And be honest. The goal is 50+ reviews. They don't have to be long or 5 stars if you don't think the album deserves. So just review the album, please!

Finally, members of Burning Bridget Cleary have a side project called House of Hamill. They are kickstarting an album right now and having fun with the videos to promote it too. Go watch and support the album.

Thank you as always for your generous support.

Chilling By the Celtic Campfire

258-Chilling-By-the-Celtic-Campire

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers!

It's so gorgeous outside here Alabama as you'll see on today's New Celtic CDs show. I usually record the show on my porch deck. I have family in town today. So not sure where I'll be recording it. But my goal is to shoot a live show at 2pm CST. If you're free, come drop by. If you know of any new Celtic CDs, share those on the show today. It all happens on our Facebook Live page.

Due to the extremely awesome weather, I got it in my head to do a laid back episode of Celtic music for camping. This one gave me flashbacks to some of my college camping trips. If you make it out into the woods, let me know if it helps you to chill out there. :)

Best of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast compilation just needs FIVE MORE REVIEWS to reach our 50+ goal. You should've received a copy of the album when you signed up to this mailing list. Could you do us a favor and share your review of the album. Thank you!

Finally, this Sunday is Mother's Day. If you missed last year's Mother's Day episode, give it a listen. And I wish all you moms out there a Happy Mother's Day.

BECOME A PATRON OF THE PODCAST

Did you know that the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast was not a weekly show until I launched the Patrons of the Podcast on Patreon?

You get the show each and every week thanks to the generosity of the 150 people who pledge just $1 or more per episode.

For less than the cost of a Starbucks coffee each month, patrons cover the cost of producing this show. These expenses include web hosting, MP3 hosting, advertising, hosting a mailing list, and website maintenance (extremely important due to repeated web server attacks over the last few months). Your pledges also pay for the time I put in to produce the podcast. Plus, I donate 10% of your pledges to Celtic Non-Profits.

Now whenever we hit a Milestone, I bring you an extra-long, 2-hour episode of awesome indie Celtic music. In the past, I've featured bagpipes, fiddles, Celtic rock, instrumentals, Celtic Canadian music and lots more. Celtic Music to the Rescue

259-Celtic-Music-to-the-Rescue

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers!

I gotta say I'm feeling really good about the podcast these days. The past couple of years have seen a lot of changes. The show has gone weekly. The Celtic Music Magazine is fun and engaging. I started TWO new live streaming video news shows on Facebook that are promoting indie Celtic bands better than ever.

It's the last two that have most excited me. In fact, I'm very close to achieving a full promotional schedule that will do wonders for indie Celtic bands. I'm just waiting to hear back from some helpers whose emails I missed over the past few weeks. It's getting better and better. If you'd like to help me out. I'd be honored to have you.

The show is rocking too. It's still coming out weekly with zero problems meeting my deadlines. Heck! The only difficult part is actually promoting MY music. I keep forgetting that part.

So I guess this is a good time to point out that tonight, I have a live streaming internet performance on Concert Window at 8pm CST.

Yes. It's on the internet. So you can watch me anywhere in the world. It's also pay-what-you-want. Any amount is fine and you can watch me perform Irish Drinking Songs, which is the theme of the concert this month. Come watch me tonight, May 12!

This is my last pitch for Best of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast compilation. If I can just get THREE MORE REVIEWS, we will hit my 50+ goal. What does that mean? Well, it could help promote the podcast and the bands on the compilation by getting the album featured by Amazon or higher on the search engines. Any review is fine. So please share your review of the album. You don't have to say you love it. Just be honest and share. Thank you!

I WANT YOUR FEEDBACK -- Call 678-235-8763. What are you doing today while listening to the podcast? Please post a comment on iTunes or in the shownotes.

And don't forget to vote in the Celtic Top 20.

* VIDEO HELP WANTED. YouTube is one of the largest search engines. So I want to get podcast episodes back up there like I used to. I want you to convert podcast episodes to video. You can use a single stand alone picture with the music, then upload the video to YouTube. A fast computer helps. Would you be willing to help? Reply now!

When we hit our next Miliestone, I will bring you a two-hour special highlighting indie Celtic Women!

You can help make that happen. Become a Patrons of the Podcast Today! A special thanks goes out to Chrystin Pleasants and Frank Donahue, our latest patrons.

NEW SUBMISSIONS THIS WEEK:

The Freestylers of Piping
Description: From Los Angeles, California, The Freestylers of Piping is an exciting new group united by a passion for bagpiping and drumming, yet held together by a thirst for artistic creativity and musical experimentation, the result of this unique collaboration is a quartet whose approach to traditional instruments is as contemporary and diverse as the musical backgrounds of its four members.

Ranging in stylistic influences from percussion ensemble to contemporary pop, from hip-hop rhythms to hardcore punk, from be-bop jazz to modern pipe band arrangements, The Freestylers’ innovative musical style holds up to its namesake. It is free from a particular style while constantly pushing the envelope. It is excitingly contemporary without ever fully turning its back on its roots.

Personal Fact: Our favorite gig is the annual Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in North Carolina where we have performed for the past two years.

Leaping Lulu

Description: Leaping Lulu, is a neo-traditional Celtic folk band based in Logan, Utah. They adopted its name from a jig composed by Greg Boardman. In addition to their solo concerts and Celtic Circle collaborations with Irish dancers, Leaping Lulu is highly regarded for their Contra Dance music.

Personal Fact: Liz and Sara both have Scottish heritage. Liz has relatives in Gourock, Scotland who have shared their amazing collection of Malts (Whisky). Liz's favourite trip to Scotland included a visit to Duarte Castle and Oban, then to Aberdeen where her grandparents lived before immigrating to Canada.

Wild Geese in a Summer Storm

260-Wild-Geese-in-a-Summer-Storm

Greetings {!firstname_fix}

Yesterday was my daughter Inara's first birthday. How does the Gunn family celebrate birthdays? With a trip to the beach! Well, I wish we could do that every time, but we are jonesing for a wee escape. So we are off.

For that reason, I pre-recorded episodes of the New Celtic CDs and Celtic Music News shows. They will be out on Friday and Monday at 2pm as planned. Go watch them on Facebook. It's a great way to find out what's new in the Celtic Music world.

Thank you so much for you kind and generous support of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. I hope you love this week's show like I do. It's totally rockin'!

Celtic Fun in the Sun, Nominated for Podcast Awards

261-Celtic-Beach-for-Memorial-Day

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers!

My family and I had a GREAT time at the beach last weekend. On the drive back, we stopped off at a local restaurant chain called Cheeseburger in Paradise. Bob Marley was piped through the speakers. It got me thinking..Jimmy Buffet and Bob Marley, what says beach more than that?

That's the question I wanted to answer when I decided to put together this week's Celtic beach show of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. I think I did a pretty good job. But I'd like to know what you think. Send me your comments about the show, or your own Celtic beach music suggestions, and don't forget to VOTE in the CELTIC TOP 20!

Speaking of the Celtic Top 20, I was listening to last week's show, when I decided to find out how easy it is to vote. I listened for my favorite bands. Then I went to the shownotes to vote... I found it wasn't as easy as I'd like...mostly because my memory sucks. So I made a couple small changes.

You will now find the link to vote at the bottom of the shownotes, near the list of bands, as well as at the top of the page. Second, when you click the link, you can immediately post the two band names before you need to add the episode number and your name and email address. I think this should make it easier than ever to vote for the best of 2016.

Finally, I just got word that the Podcast Awards officially open voting on May 29th. You can vote for the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast once a day for 15 days to help us win. If you're like me, you're sure to forget. That's why I setup a reminder mailing list. Subscribe here and starting May 29th until June 12th, will email you a reminder. Plus, I'll even send you a few bonus bits to make it worth your time.

I hope you enjoy this week's show!

Of course, changes will still occur as I fly to Cornwall and my schedule gets really messed up. I don't even know if I'll do any shows while I'm traveling. So stay tuned. I may also skip publishing this newsletter or do a very minimalistic version.

Raised on Black and Tans

265-Raised-on-Black-and-Tans

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers!

I had an incredible time on my Celtic Invasion of Cornwall. Some of my favorite things were climbing Tintagel, horseback riding on a beach, and visiting a folk session in Appledore. My invaders are still posting pictures. Mine are now on the Marc Gunn fan page. I also have two episodes of The Celtfather that are now online as well. And yesterday, I released a music video featuring scenes from the trip.

I'm disappointed to announce we did not win in this year's Podcast Awards. But there's always next year. Thank you so much for voting. We had a great turnout. I appreciate all your support. And a big congrats to the winners.

With this week's show done, I'm actually heading back to England. My wife has a conference. So we are turning it into a family vacation. Don't worry though. I have a show ready for you on the 7th. So I'll keep the music flowing!

Here's thsi week's show with great indie Celtic music from Leaping Lulu, We Banjo 3, 3 Pints Gone, Ron Cody, Rowan, Willie McCulloch, Gaelic Storm, Ginger Ackley, Mason Brown, Ceol Gan Achar, Old Man Flanagan’s Ghost, Amadan, John Byrne Band, A Band of Rogues, Saor Patrol.
