Greetings and Happy Mothers Day
I was trying to think of a cool twist to this year's Mother's Day special. I got an idea when I was looking for songs in my iTunes for last week's show, I noticed very few female Celtic artists. I know that's fairly standard in the music business. But it got me thinking.
I have 2 incredilbe daughters. Kenzie is 6, and Inara turns 2 next week. I confess I have a secret hope that one of them will become a musician like I am. But what challenges will they face as women in a male-dominated business?
That's why I decided to highlight Irish Women for Mother's Day. You'll enjoy Celtic music from Carolina Ceili, Susan Toman, Jennifer Lick, The Screaming Orphans, Colleen Raney, Mary Jane Lamond & Wendy MacIsaac, Katherine Nagy, Runa, Arlene Faith, Karan Casey, Chrissy Crowley, Amelia Hogan, Solas. Learn more in the shownotes.
I asked last week if you would prefer joining me on Facebook or YouTube for a Q&A event. I had a surprising number of people say they were no longer on social media due to all the negativity. I guess I'm really not that surprised. I'm pretty sick of it too.
So I've decided to hold tomorrow's event on YouTube instead of Facebook. It's still at 9am central time. I'm happy to say we finally have custom URL where you can watch the show: https://www.youtube.com/IrishCelticMusicPodcast
I will send a reminder on Facebook and maybe even log on to Facebook live for a little bit. If you haven't yet subscribe to our new YouTube page, please do so.
I'd like to recommend a new podcast. Check out the Irish Music Stories podcast with Shannon Heaton. She's doing an NPR-style show highlighting Irish music stories. It's extremely engaging and fun, with lots of great music. I hope to work with her more in the future.
Finally I'm playing this Saturday, May 13 at Johnnie MacCracken's Pub in Marietta, Georgia from 7-11pm. Please take note of the NEW TIME. 7 til 11pm. Please come out to this show if you want it to continue.
I hope you have a great week. Slainte!
